Can stress cause weight gain?
It’s no secret that stress can take a toll on our health. We’ve all experienced the physical symptoms of stress at one point or another – the tightness in our chests, the butterflies in our stomachs, the headaches and dizziness. But did you know that stress can also lead to weight gain? It’s true!
Can stress cause weight gain? The short answer is yes – but not in the way you might think. A study published in the journal Obesity found that people who experienced chronic stress were more likely to be overweight or obese than those who didn’t.
Researchers have found that, on average, women who reported one or more stressors during the prior 24 hours burned 104 fewer calories than non-stressed women.
- This could result in an 11-pound weight gain in one year. Stressed women also had higher insulin levels, a hormone that contributes to fat storage. Stressed women also have higher insulin levels, a hormone that contributes to fat storage.
Wow! It’s no secret that stress can have a negative impact on our health. But did you know that stress can also lead to weight gain?
the researchers also found that it wasn’t the stress itself that caused the weight gain; rather, it was the participants’ unhealthy coping mechanisms for dealing with stress.

How stress can cause weight gain?
You have been feeling stressed lately? Then tomorrow, the belly will grow. No, no this is not to cause alarm to you but just to let you know what is really happening in your body as a result of stress?
Stress can lead people to gain weight quickly and it can cause struggle to lose weight in the long run.
Because there is an unhealthy connection between:
Stress and weight gain: An Unhealthy Connection
Data compiled by the American Psychologists Association show that nearly one in four Americans experience an anxiety attack every month. Unfortunately, stress increases your weight. How do you manage the stress associated with weight loss?
Let’s get to it later in this podcast but for now, let’s understand
Can stress really cause weight gain?
Oh yeah. If a person feels anxious, their body goes into fight mode, releasing the hormone adrenaline which helps you fight off perceived threats. The body can produce glucose in its bloodstream in order to cope with a dangerous threat. Once adrenalin wears down and blood glucose drops, the hormone cortisol reaches your body and gives you energy. Cortisol helps release insulin, which maintains the glucose in your body but may cause cravings for sugar in general. The craving for something can cause an increase in weight.
Why do people crave comfort food when they’re stressed?
Some people crave comfort food when they’re stressed because it helps them feel better. Comfort food is often high in sugar, fat, or both. These substances can help to improve mood and provide a temporary sense of well-being. However, comfort food is not a healthy way to cope with stress in the long term.

How stress can lead to weight gain according to doctors
The link between stress and cortisol
Studies have shown that cortisol levels may increase as you get older…
When you’re stressed, your body produces a hormone called cortisol. This washes away any feel-good neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine that would normally tell you to stop eating. It also increases your appetite for sugary, fatty foods. In other words, it tells your body to hold onto calories rather than burn them.Your body also goes into what’s called “fight or flight” mode when you’re stressed. This means that your body is preparing to either face a threat or run from it.
As part of this response, your body releases sugar into your bloodstream so you’ll have energy to either fight or take off. The problem is, most of us don’t need that extra sugar because we’re not actually in danger. But our bodies don’t know that, so the sugar just ends up being stored as fat.
This can lead to weight gain because when you crave sugar, you are likely to eat more than you need.
Chronic fatigue and stress has a very negative impact on metabolism. Stress may affect brain reward systems such as the amygdala and hippocampus, causing an appetite for food. Cortisol release in response to stress can cause fat accumulation in the belly. According to a recent research, weight gain is also a risk factor for heart attacks.
- Chronic Stress Triggers Food Cravings
- Chronic Stress Makes Insulin Less Effective
- Chronic Stress Leads to More Belly Fat
- Chronic Stress Leads to Insomnia
- Chronic Stress Sabotages Your Workout
An excess of cortisol also can lead your body to produce less testosterone. This may cause a decrease in muscle mass, as well as slow down how many calories your body burns.
Why This Slow Down Can Be Harmful
Because your metabolism is responsible for converting food into energy, a change in how this system works can cause potential problems. As outlined by the American Psychological Association, these issues include:
- Weight gain
- Fatigue
- Depression
- Health complications, such as high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes
- Reduced effectiveness of the immune system
So you see, the risks of stress and weight gain.
Stressful events—including both major life changes (getting married, having a baby, job-related concerns) and daily hassles (traffic jams, work deadlines, sick kids)—trigger the body’s fight-or-flight response.
In small doses, this stress response is beneficial, providing the extra energy and focus needed to get through a tough situation. But when stress is constant, as it is for many people, the body remains in fight-or-flight mode, which can lead to a variety of problems, including weight gain.
Here are five ways stress may lead to weight gain:
1. Stress increases cortisol levels, which can lead to cravings for unhealthy foods.
When you’re stressed, your body releases the hormone cortisol. Cortisol is a stress hormone that helps you deal with stressful situations by providing a burst of energy.
In small doses, cortisol is beneficial. But when cortisol levels are constantly elevated, as they are during chronic stress, it can lead to weight gain.
Cortisol not only increases your appetite, but it also causes cravings for unhealthy foods, like those high in sugar and fat. This is because cortisol tells your body to store fat in case it needs to use it for energy later.
2. Stress can lead to emotional eating.
Emotional eating is when you eat in response to emotions, rather than hunger. People often turn to food as a way to cope with stress.
While emotional eating may help you feel better in the short-term, it can lead to weight gain in the long-term. This is because emotional eating often leads to overeating, as well as eating unhealthy foods that are high in calories and low in nutrients.
3. Stress may disrupt your sleep, which can lead to weight gain.
When you’re stressed, you may have trouble sleeping. This is because stress can cause anxiety and worry, which can make it difficult to fall asleep and stay asleep.
Not getting enough sleep can lead to weight gain in several ways. First, it can increase your appetite. Second, it can disrupt your hormones, leading to increases in cortisol and ghrelin (a hormone that increases hunger). And third, it can make you feel too tired to exercise, which can further contribute to weight gain.
4. Stress can lead to unhealthy behaviors, like smoking and drinking.
People often turn to unhealthy behaviors, like smoking and drinking, as a way to cope with stress.
While these behaviors may help you feel better in the short-term, they can lead to weight gain in the long-term. Smoking, for example, can increase your appetite and make you crave high-calorie foods. And drinking alcohol can lead to overeating and make you more likely to eat unhealthy foods.
5. Stress can make you more likely to overeat.
When you’re stressed, you may be more likely to overeat. This is because stress can increase your appetite and make you crave high-calorie foods.
Overeating can lead to weight gain, as well as a host of other health problems, like heart disease and diabetes.
If you’re struggling to manage your weight, it’s important to find healthy ways to cope with stress. Some helpful coping mechanisms include exercise, relaxation techniques, and journaling.
So, to sum it up, stress can lead to weight gain leading to many health concerns.
Now,
How to Break the Cycle of Stress and Weight Gain
What are some healthy ways to cope with stress?
When you are stressed, your body releases hormones that can cause you to gain weight. You may also crave sugary foods and be less likely to exercise. This can lead to a cycle of stress and weight gain. However, there are things you can do to break the cycle.
- Exercise: Exercise can help reduce stress and improve your overall health. It is important to find an exercise routine that you enjoy and that fits into your lifestyle.
- Eat a healthy diet: Eating a healthy diet can help you manage your weight and reduce stress. Be sure to include plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains in your diet.
- Get enough sleep: Getting enough sleep is important for overall health and well-being. Be sure to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep each night.
- Manage your time: Time management can help reduce stress. Try to set aside time each day for things that are important to you.
- Take breaks: Taking breaks throughout the day can help reduce stress. Take a few minutes to walk around, stretch, or just take some deep breaths.
- Reduce your caffeine intake: Caffeine can increase stress levels. Try to limit your caffeine intake to no more than 200 mg per day.
- Try relaxation techniques: Relaxation techniques, such as yoga or meditation, can help reduce stress.
- Make time for fun: Make sure to schedule some time each week for activities that you enjoy. This can help reduce stress and improve your overall mood. It could be spending time with family and friends….anything that lifts your mood.
- Talk to a therapist: A therapist can help you manage your stress. They can also help you develop healthy coping mechanisms.
Role of Mental health and Therapy in Stress Management
It is important to manage stress in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle. However, sometimes stress can be too much to handle on your own. If you are feeling overwhelmed by stress, consider talking to a therapist. A therapist can help you develop healthy coping mechanisms and improve your overall mental health. Mental health is just like physical health. You need to take care of it and treat it if something is wrong.
When it comes to weight loss, power of positive thinking really helps
It seems that when it comes to weight loss, some people just have all the luck. No matter how hard they try, they can’t seem to shed those extra pounds. But for others, weight loss comes relatively easily. What’s the difference? Some experts say
‘ it’s all in the mind.’
And maybe it is…
There are plenty of success stories to support this theory. Take, for example, the case of Jane Doe. Jane had been struggling to lose weight for years, but no matter what she tried, she just couldn’t seem to get below a size 12. Then she read an article about the power of positive thinking when it comes to weight loss. After that, her whole attitude changed. She started believing that she could lose weight, and sure enough, the pounds started melting away. Today, Jane is a success story herself, having lost over 100 pounds and keeping it off for good.
So if you’re having trouble losing weight, don’t give up hope just yet. Instead, try changing your mindset and see if that makes a difference. You might just be surprised at the results.
In this podcast episode, we have also included Spiritual based pranic healing technique for losing weight when you understand what it really is
let’s understand
What is Fat Really? What is excess weight?
When I spoke with a certified Pranic Healer, she talked about Pranic Weightloss and Body Sculpting, I was so surprised to learn that excess weight is nothing but energy.
it is an energy that is stuck up due to our emotions. It has not much to do with exercise or dieting. Our bodies are completely neutral, the way they behave is an effect rather than a cause.
‘What has to be consumed, stored or expelled out of the body is the work of our mind.’
Let us understand this stuck-up energy,
We accept that our bodies’ metabolism and hormone secretions are governed by brain activity and that our brains are influenced by our ideas.
Thoughts are broadly divided into Fear-based thoughts and Love based thoughts.
The cause of excess fat in the body is fear which blocks out love.
You see it is about the emotions of underconfidence, low self-esteem and a habit of constant negative self-talk.
The fear-based thoughts include, shame, insecurity and low self-esteem. These thoughts have energy which is contracting and dark grey and this can be felt while scanning in alternate healing. These are really old thought forms that get stuck and refuse to move even with the best diet plan and exercise regime.
So this pranic healer told me that fat is all the anger and hate people have directed to themselves and others.
The world renowned author Louis L. Hay in her book, You Can Heal Your Life, writes that the probable causes of excess weight are: Fear; need for protection; Running away from feelings; Insecurity, self-rejection, Seeking fulfilment from self and others. In fact, She goes on to say, “Fat is related to Over sensitivity. It often represents fear and shows a need for protection. Fear may be a cover for hidden anger and a resistance to forgive.”
6 Emotions And Which Body Part They Affect!
The connection between our minds and bodies is often treated as make believe and mired in controversies. Researchers in Finland have tried to find the connection and, according to a study they conducted with over 700 participants, different emotions influenced various regions of the body.
Agitation
According to traditional Chinese medicine, the heart is linked with emotions of joy and excitement. However, when the mind is stressed, the same joy and satisfaction turn into agitation and overstimulation. Over-excitement can cause sleeplessness, restlessness, and palpitations.
Anger
The choleric humour is linked to anger, which can lead to irritation and discontent. Bile is believed to be the source of this emotion, which is stored in the liver and gall bladder. Anger can cause headaches and high blood pressure, both of which have an impact on the stomach and spleen.
Getting your stress under control is essential for maintaining a healthy weight. If you’re struggling to manage your stress, talk to your doctor or a counsellor. They can help you to find ways to better cope with the stressors in your life.
Grief
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, grief is known to affect the lungs and anxiety is known to affect the lungs as well as the large intestine. These emotions can cause fatigue, shortness of breath or ulcerative colitis.
Fear
If fear is felt too deeply and for a prolonged period of time, it can begin to affect your kidneys in a harmful way. This explains the urge to urinate whenever one is frightened, particularly in children.
Sadness or thoughtful Sadness
This emotion is known to cause an imbalance in the bladder, and spleen and tears in the eyes. A feeling of heaviness or aching in the limbs is also common.
Stress
As mentioned earlier, stress can have an impact on numerous body parts and systems. When you’re feeling stressed, your body goes into fight-or-flight mode. This means that your heart rate and blood pressure increase, and you may start to breathe more quickly. Stress can also cause headaches, muscle tension, and stomach upset.
Joy
On the other hand, pure joy is said to have a beneficial effect on all organs and emotions. It is the only emotion that is known to be curative.
If you’re struggling with stress and weight gain, there are a few things you can do to get your stress under control. First, try to identify the sources of your stress and see if there is anything you can do to eliminate them. If not, look for ways to better manage your stressors. This might involve learning some relaxation techniques or seeking counselling.
Additionally, make sure you’re getting enough sleep and eating a healthy diet. These two things will help to reduce your stress levels and prevent weight gain.
How to Break the Cycle of Stress and Weight Gain

There are a few things you can do to break the cycle of stress and weight gain:
-Identify the sources of your stress and see if there is anything you can do to eliminate them.
-Look for ways to better manage your stressors. This might involve learning some relaxation techniques or seeking counselling.
-Make sure you’re getting enough sleep and eating a healthy diet. These two things will help to reduce your stress levels and prevent weight gain.
-Talk to your doctor or a counsellor if you’re struggling to manage your stress. They can help you to find ways to better cope with the stressors in your life.

Energy healing for weight loss
When it comes to weight loss, there are all sorts of programs and products out there that claim to be the key to success. But what about energy healing? Could this potentially be the secret weapon that finally helps you shed those unwanted pounds?
Energy healing is a holistic practice that helps in activating the body’s subtle energy systems to remove blocks. By breaking through these energetic blocks, the body’s inherent ability to heal itself is stimulated.
The human body is a complete energy system that is in tune with the Universe. Any disharmony within the body prevents energy from flowing freely, which leads to sickness. Energy therapies aim to guarantee that energies move freely throughout the body.
PARTICULARLY RECOMMENDED FOR…
- Chronic Ailments
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Post-traumatic Disorders
- Post-Surgery (E.g. Chemotherapy) Rehab
- Phobias / Trauma
- Those aspiring for Spiritual growth
- Looking for Positive Mental Health
Most Popular Pranic healing techniques:
Music & Sound Therapy
Even Music & Sound Therapy is a form of guided meditation where the music therapeutically addresses our physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs. It is scientifically proven that sound produces geometrical formations that are found in nature
sound and pattern: yes they are related
sound can move and shape matter
each unique frequency interacts with matter in a unique way
Its vibration affects material through resonance and creates beautiful patterns at a microscopic level like hexagonal figures or mandalas or more commonly the shape of a snowflake…
ANd we apply music therapy or sound therapy to intentional weight loss, the results are humungous
why because?
These forms of meditation improve respiration, lower blood pressure, and improve cardiac and cognitive health while also reducing stress and muscle tension!
Yoga
Yoga is essentially a top-notch spiritual discipline that helps one achieve a harmonious union between mind and body, through controlled asanas (Yogic postures) and breathwork.
The constituents of Yoga are many:
- Pranayama (practices of controlling the breath as you release toxins),
- Chanting (Chanting mantras helps release positive energy while also cleansing the soul, mind and personal environment such that there is a reduction in anxiety and stress),
- Trataka (A yogic purification technique of staring at one point/dot/candle flame; this brings energy to the “third eye” and is known to also promote various psychic abilities),
- Yogic Mudras which is the practice of balancing the vital energy throughout the body by joining different combinations of the fingers and thumbs
Reiki
Have you wondered…
What is Reiki?
Or perhaps you know a little about it and you are searching for reiki classes near me, reiki symbols, reiki healing near me,
and on youtube you find yourself searching for reiki music, reiki massage, reiki master, and reiki therapist, then let me tell you genuine reiki masters can help you with your weight loss situation.
How does reiki help with weight loss?
One theory is that it helps to improve the flow of energy in the body, which can lead to a higher metabolism and increased fat burning.
One way it may help is by correcting any imbalances in the flow of energy in the body. If the energy flow is blocked or stagnant, it can lead to weight gain. Reiki helps to unblock and balance the flow of energy, which may help with weight loss.
It’s also thought to help reduce stress levels, which can be one of the main roadblocks to success when trying to lose weight. If you’re feeling more relaxed and at ease, you’re more likely to make good decisions when it comes to your diet and fitness routine.
So if you’ve been struggling to lose weight without success, energy healing may be worth a try. Who knows, it could just be the boost you needed.
GUIDED MEDITATIONS
Meditation in itself is a practice of mindfulness where one can reach a state of inner awareness and calm while evolving spiritually; a guided version simply has a guru, master or scholar leading us through the said meditation step by step, wherein we learn to focus on the instructions given. These guided meditations while helping us release toxins from both the body and the Aura, also replenishes and heals us!

MOOD THERAPY
LAUGHTER THERAPY
Laughter helps secretes endorphins which help people get out of an unsettled or depressed mood; Laughter therapy hence is a non-invasive and non-pharmacological alternative treatment for stress and depression.
When it comes to weight loss, there are all sorts of programs and products out there that claim to be the key to success. But what about energy healing? Could this potentially be the secret weapon that finally helps you shed those unwanted pounds?
So if you’ve been struggling to lose weight without success, energy healing may be worth a try. Who knows, it could just be the boost you needed.
Before you write off energy healing as quackery, consider the success stories of those who have tried it. Many people report feeling more mentally and emotionally balanced after receiving energy healing, which can, in turn, lead to making healthier choices when it comes to food and exercise. Some even say that they had a sudden surge of motivation to get active and start losing weight.
If you are struggling to lose weight, or if you are noticing unwanted weight gain, it is important to consult with a doctor or registered dietitian to develop a plan that is right for you.
