Vision, inspiration, mysterious gifts as from above: such are some of the associations that continue to adorn the word.

In Lal Singh Chaddha, you watch a simpleton wandering through life, not looking for answers but finding them along the way but this simple storyline is missed in the domestic market…in India…why did the film not do well so far in India?
Essentially what Aamir Khan wanted to portray with Lal Singh Chaddha was to tell a story of a simple man who goes on to do extraordinary things because of the simplicity with longest name of his life, his love for people and the message being:
“Be simple, lead a simple life and good things will come to you”
or
“Success is yours when you don’t run after it”

But how many people resonate with all these messages? especially Domestically?
This is the same audience that loved Taare Zameen pe or Dil Chahta Hai or Dangal or 3 idiots…
then why the film bombed initially in the Indian market?
Perhaps, the storyline had some missing pieces or an overdone aspect to it.
You see, this film is more high-energy than the original, opting for speech over silent tears. Aamir Khan gives a wide-eyed performance in Punjabi accent with PK’s body language and enthusiasm which apparently is not much appreciated
Because the actor is perfection personified
For instance, the repetition of a character like PK is very prominent
Perhaps a new character had to be built to play Lal Singh Chaddha
Because the indian audience loved his character as PK
How will they not identify the same PK beneath the flowing hair of Lal Singh Chaddha?
Adapting a classic movie is not easy. It is even more complicated to remake Forrest Gump because it has a meandering, all-encompassing, nonlinear plot and it is a profound movie with a simple approach to life and its purpose. Also, we have to understand that it was released in 1994
There should have been more customisations to make it relevant to today’s times.
Ideally the scenes should be self-explanatory as one scene leads to another just like in PK, 3 idiots, the story progressed and the audience enjoyed their evening over a leisurely family day out.
also, isn’t the purpose of going to watch a Bollywood movie and that too an Aamir Khan classic something that you look forward to?
You know that you will be coming out with some food for thought or you might stumble upon a dialog or a song like “all is well’ then why would you come to expect your audience to like this movie to come out confused because you could not make head or tail of the meandering life of Lal Singh Chaddha?
I guess the missing ingredient was the need for powerful dialogues and a script that should have flown effortlessly.
Even though some people are boycotting him, the actor’s characters reflect his voice and opinions. His choice to play a role that is often given to younger actors at his age (57) is something to be admired.
Although he is trying hard, some of his techniques are a bit too much. He takes too many pauses and “hmmms”.
The script and the dialogues should have been woven by keeping into consideration that you are adapting a classic and that a veteran is portraying the role hence it has to come through as that much more mind-blowing every time a dialogue passes from his lips.
You want him to tone down the embellishment and keep it simple, as Kareena does. She is beautifully restrained as Rupa aka Forrest’s Jenny.
She embodies the sorrow of Geet and the wisdom of Madhur Bhandarkar’s Heroine, seamlessly weaving them together while still managing to hit all the right notes and strike a perfect balance between involvement and detachment.
Mona Singh exudes just the right amount of courage and compassion for her character.
The film may not be as effortlessly moving or immersive as the original but it will make you want to see it with your family. At a time of evolving culture, Lal Singh Chaddha holds onto the good old values that make it worthy of a family outing.
Lal Singh Chaddha is a film that everyone can enjoy. Go watch it with your family and friends!
