7 must-try single malt whiskies under Rs5,000

Inspired by Mount Kamet in Uttarakhand, this single malt whisky is produced in a distillery in Kurukshetra. Using the local six-row barley, the whisky is distilled in copper pot stills and matured in a combination of ex-Bourbon American Oak, ex-wine French Oak and ex-Sherry casks. This gives the single malt a vinous touch, as most single malts use only ex-Bourbon casks for their standard expression. As you drink Kamet, the notes of caramel, dark chocolate, and raisins blend in with the more distinct oak spice flavours that produce a warm and nutty finish.

Indri

Ankit Nandwani

Named after the riverside destination in Haryana that houses its distillery, Indri brings out individual flavours of all three barrels—a former wine barrel, a bourbon barrel, and a PX sherry cask—that it is aged in. While the wine barrel lends it a peppery note, the sherry one imparts hints of blackcurrant, and the bourbon cask adds a touch of vanilla. Topping this kaleidoscopic experience are the whisky’s own flavours, with hints of black tea, caramelised pineapples, and vinous raisins.
Rs3,000 in Gurugram. Prices may differ in other parts of the country.
